The Mediterranean region was at the centre of talks between Italy's premier Giuseppe Conte and his British counterpart Boris Johnson on the sidelines of a NATO summit in London, sources in Conte's office told Adnkronos.
Conte and Johnson's meeting at the British prime minister's residence at 10 Downing Street lasted 25 minutes, according to the sources.
Conte was due to hold talks with United States president Donald Trump on Wednesday afternoon, the sources said.
In a statement on Tuesday, Conte's office said the premier's talks with Johnson would be 'informal'.
The NATO leaders's summit marks the 70th anniversary of the alliance. The United Kingdom was one of NATO’s twelve founding members and London was the home of its first headquarters.
