Minor held for horrific Naples mafia murders

A minor was arrested near Naples on Monday on suspicion of cutting the throats and cutting up of two local mafia bosses in February, after their badly decomposed body parts were found wrapped in plastic bags in a ditch.

The unnamed minor, who was 16 at the time of the horrific double murders in the town of Afragola, was arrested together with 24-year-old mafia scion Domenico D'Ando, who is also accused of the murders, local daily Il Mattino cited police as telling reporters on Monday.

The killings of Luigi Rusciano e Luigi Ferrara from the Naples mafia or Camorra's Amato-Pagano lclan were "disturbing and devastating" and showed the "great levels of aggression" and "criminal maturity" of the minor, the daily cited Naples police chief Antonio De Iesu as saying.

The murders had been planned "down to the smallest detail" and were carried out amid a turf war for the control of a cigarette smuggling racket, according to police.

D'Ando and the minor's arrests came after a foul smell was reported to be coming from the ditch near a landfill site in countryside outside Afragola, where Rusciano and Ferrara's rotting corpses were recovered, each cut into four sections.
