And Sir Ken Knight, the former Chief Fire and Rescue Adviser to the Government, topped FIREX International's inaugural Top 20 Most Influential Figures in Fire.

The winners were announced live on IFSEC & FIREX TV - which broadcast on large screens around ExCeL London - at IFSEC & FIREX International yesterday afternoon. Bob Forsyth's triumph recognises a string of achievements, including burgeoning revenues and winning Guarding Company of the Year at the Security Excellence Awards 2012.

Explaining his nomination one of his advocates in the ballot said: "Bob continues to dedicate his efforts to creating an all-round better security industry in terms of what the industry can achieve, what it looks like from the outside and overall contributing towards making the industry a more professional sector to work within."

IFSEC Global.com's fire-industry audience recognised the seismic impact of Sir Ken Knight's 2013 review of England's 46 fire and rescue authorities. Citing a 40% decline in callouts over the past decade, Sir Ken's report argued for a more streamlined, versatile service better suited to the 21st century.

This former firefighter also oversaw enforcement of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and advised the government on fire safety for the 2012 London Olympics.

Commenting on his achievement Bob Forsyth said:

"Absolutely delighted to have won the award. With 22 years in the industry, this is a highlight in my career and I would like to think that my message of embracing technology in a risk-based, modern industry should be one that we all aspire to. Thank you to everyone who nominated me - I appreciate and am honoured by this accolade."

The top 40 is the upshot of hundreds of votes cast over several weeks, with an expert industry judge finalising the list based on nominees' respective merits.

IFSEC Global.com content and community editor Adam Bannister said:

"Congratulations to Bob Forsyth and Sir Ken Knight - both worthy winners. The competition is becoming a fixture of IFSEC & FIREX International and it was great seeing the results broadcast live on IFSEC & FIREX TV. I'd also like to thank all those who voted - it was a fantastic response from the community."
