A court in Rome on Wednesday fined a woman 30,000 euros for denigrating her ex-husband and prejudicing their children against him.
"The mother's behaviour had a direct effect on the image of the other parent, who was weakened in his role as educator and reference-point [for the couple's children]," read the court's ruling.
The court ordered the woman to pay the 30,000 euros of damages and to "behave respectfully towards her ex-spouse and to refrain from denigrating him".
If the woman failed to comply with the ruling she could face "even more severe sanctions in future including losing custody of her children," the court warned.
