A total 26 Italian citizens returned home on Tuesday aboard a flight from the Israeli coastal city of Tel Aviv after they were stranded there when the Covid-19 pandemic began earlier this year.
"A special Israir flight from Tel Aviv recently landed in Rome, the fifth since flights were halted. Great teamwork from the consular Task Force," the foreign ministry tweeted.
The foreign ministry has been working with embassies and consulates around the world to repatriate thousands of Italians stranded aboard amid the coronavirus pandemic, after countries closed their borders and suspended international flights.
