The stalled negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are crucial to ending the 106-day-old invasion of the former Soviet republic, Italy's foreign minister Luigi Di Maio said on Thursday.
"Negotiations is fundamental and we back all efforts to this end. We have supported and will continue to support Turkey," Di Maio stated on the sidelines of an OECD Ministerial Council meeting in Paris.
"We have asked India to act as an interpreter to promote dialogue between the two parties, above all to bring Putin to the table," Di Maio went on, referring to Russia's president Vladimir Putin.
Italy has also invited China to play a "proactive" role in attaining a peace settlement between Russia and Ukraine, Di Maio said.
"If the negotiations do not restart, Moscow will continue to create grave economic and financial instability and food insecurity, "he added.
