Benghazi's security directorate will protect the United Nations mission in Libya's office which reopens in the eastern port city this month, ots chief told an UNSMIL delegation, the Libyan Address website said Tuesday.
During the meeting General Adel Abdul Aziz said staff equipped with high-tech gear were ready to start patrols at the UNSMIL office to aid its work in Benghazi.
UN special envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame told the UN Security Council on Friday via videoconference from Tripoli that he also expected to reopen an UNSMIL office in southern Libya later this year.
“It is vital that we are here, in Libya," Salame said in the briefing.
