Italy's foreign minister Angelino Alfano on Tuesday urged nations to show "responsibility and solidarity" in handling the Mediterranean migrant crisis, which he said no country can tackle single-handed.
"No country is capable of dealing with the situation in the Mediterranean alone," Alfano told an Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe meeting in Palermo.
"Responsibility" and "solidarity" are crucial to handle the phenomenon of migration successfully, Alfano told the OCSE meeting.
The two-day meeting on Tuesday and Thursday is centred on migration and related security issues. It is being attended by representatives from OCSE's 57 member-states and its six Mediterranean partners - Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia.
