Pagano un dipinto 20 sterline, ma è un Raffaello

Un dipinto, pagato oltre un secolo fa appena 20 sterline, potrebbe essere un'opera di Raffaello. La scoperta è stata fatta in Scozia. Finora un vecchio e polveroso quadro raffigurante la 'Vergine Maria', custodito in un castello proprietà statale, conosciuto come Haddo House a Methlick nella contea di Aberdeen, era ritenuto opera di Innocenzo da Imola (1490 - 1550), che dipingeva ispirandosi allo stile di Raffaello.

Ora però secondo gli esperti del National Trust scozzese, che hanno sottoposto il dipinto a una serie di esami scientifici, l'opera è da ritenersi originale e da attribuire alla mano di Raffaello. 'La Vergine Maria', o 'La Madonna di Haddo', com'è stata ribattezzata dalle cronache, sarebbe stata dipinta dal maestro di Urbino tra il 1505 e il 1510). Il National Trust scozzese ha stimato anche il nuovo valore del dipinto: la stima oscillerebbe tra 20 e 35 milioni di sterline in caso di vendita all'asta.

L'annuncio della scoperta sarà ufficializzato durante il programma della Bbc 'Four's Britain's Lost Masterpieces' in onda domani sera. L'attribuzione a Raffaello è stata fatta dagli esperti britannici Bendor Grosvenor e Jacky Klein. 'La Madonna di Haddo' venne acquistata da George Hamilton-Gordon, duca di Aberdeen e primo ministro tra il 1852 e il 1855. Inizialmente era stato attribuito a Raffaello ma poi fu assegnato a Innocenzo da Imola. Ora la nuova attribuzione torna a fare il nome di Raffaello.
