US charity the Papal Foundation said on Friday it will give 10 million dollars to support the charitable work of Pope Francis around the world, Vatican Radio reported.
Members of the charity made the announcement to Francis during a papal audience at the Vatican during a pilgrimage to Rome, Vatican Radio said.
“Your charity reverberates throughout the world offering new initiatives that help to extend the merciful embrace of the Father,” Pope Francis said, cited by Vatican Radio.
The Papal Foundation's 215 million dollar fund was set up by US clergy and laity in 1988 but does not invest in any companies that engage in activities which are incompatible with the Catholic faith.
It has donated more than 121 million euros for housing, hospitals, educational institutions and pro-life programs around the world since it was created.
