On the fourth anniversary of his papacy on Monday, Pope Francis urged Catholics to keep him in their prayers.
"Please, keep praying for me," Francis said on the photo-sharing app Instagram, where he has gained 3.6 million followers since its launch a year ago.
Among recent photos posted to his Instagram account is a picture of Francis kneeling inside Saint Peter's Basilica as pilgrims pray for him.
Cardinals elected the popular Argentinian pontiff on 13 March 2013 after Pope Benedict XVI abdicated on 28 February that year.
In an interview with Germany's Die Zeit magazine last week, Francis described himself as "a sinner" and "fallible". During his papacy he has frequently asked Catholics to pray for him.
