Pope Francis landed at Ciampino airport near Rome at around 6.30 pm local time aboard a flight from Bangui, capital of the Central African Republic, after a six-day visit to Africa, Vatican Radio said on Monday.
The pope's first trip to Africa aimed at fostering peace, reconciliation and hope also took in Kenya and Uganda. It was hailed by Vatican daily L'Osservatore Romano as among the most important visit of his papacy.
