Italy's interior minister and deputy premier Matteo Salvini should address parliament over claims that his far-right League party sought illegal funding from Russia, defence minister Elisabetta Trenta said on Tuesday.
"Clarifications are needed for transparency and it right we should know what the situation is," Trenta, a member of the grassroots 5-Star Movement told Adnkronos Live.
Bowing to pressure, Salvini said on Tuesday we would take questions on the topic in regular parliamentary question time, which restricts answers to three minutes each.
Savoini has refused comment on the allegations. They are now being probed by prosecutors after US website Buzzfeed published an audio purportedly recording a Salvini aide trying to use an oil deal to siphon off Russian funds to the League.
