United Nations envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame hosted talks between UN-backed premier Fayez al-Sarraj and powerful eastern military commander Khalifa Haftar in the United Arab Emirates capital Abu Dhabi, the UN mission in Libya said on Thursday.
Sarraj and Haftar, agreed during Wednesday's meeting on the need to hold national elections in Libya and "on ways to maintain stability in the country and unify its institutions," UNSMIL stated.
The European Union and the Arab League have backed Salame's roadmap to unite chaos-hit Libya, stabilise the country and oversee an electoral process starting in the Spring.
