Sardina is keen to bolster its reputation as "a welcoming and reliable" Italian region, also for foreign investors, its governor, Christian Solinas, said on Wednesday after talks in Cagliari with Qatar Foundation representatives.

"Sardinia wants to consolidate its image as a welcoming and reliable place, also for its interlocutors and foreign investors," Solinas said after meeting the Qatar Foundation's chief executive officer Rashid Fahad Al-Naimi.

Sardinia Healthcare and Research Properties managing director and the Qatar Foundation's head of Investments Endowment, Lucio Rispo, as well as Tidu Maini, an executive committee member, also attended the meeting between Solinas and Naimi.

The talks centred on the prospects for a comprehensive medium and long-term investment plan in sectors seen as strategic to Sardinia's economic development.

A board meeting was due to take place on Wednesday of the Mater Olbia, the new hospital created from a partnership between the Qatar Foundation Endowment and the Rome-based Agostino Gemelli University Hospital IRCCS Foundation.

The Mater Olbia has already become a reference point in Sardinia's northern Gallura area for radiology and diagnostic imaging services, neurology, gynaecology, otolaryngology, gastroenterology and neurosurgery.
