European Parliament David Sassoli hailed Wednesday's vote confirming the incoming European Commission headed by Ursula von der Leyen, wishing her and her 27-member team a successful five-year term of office.
"Thanks to Parliament’s work, the new EU Commission is now ready to start its job. My best wishes to President @vonderleyen and her team," Sasoli tweeted.
"Let’s work together to change Europe for the better and act on the issues that matter most to Europeans."
A plenary session of lawmakers from the European Parliament (MEPs) on Wednesday voted in favour of the new commissioners by 461 to 157 against. There were 89 abstentions.
The new team will take office on 1 December, a month later than planned due .
Von der Leyen, the first woman to take on the presidency, said earlier that her team would "give Europe a new start" with a focus on climate change and technology to achieve the UN sustainable development goals.
