A Saudi Arabian man was beheaded in Abha in the south of the country for killing a policeman, the state-run Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday, quoting a statement from the interior ministry.
Ali Assiri shot and killed the policeman while being arrested, SPA cited the ministry as saying.
Saudi Arabia is one of the world’s most prolific executioners, alongside China, Iran, Iraq and the United States, according to Amnesty International.
At least 134 people have executed in Saudi Arabia so far this year compared with 90 in the whole of 2014.
Drug trafficking, rape, murder, apostasy and armed robbery are all punishable with death under the kingdom’s strict Islamic legal code.
Most executions are carried out by beheading but the firing squad is sometimes used.
