Thirty Italian companies, the Veneto Region and the Verona Fair are taking part in the International Agricultural Fair in Novi Sad, northern Serbia through Thursday, an event marking 140 years of diplomatic ties and the 10th anniversary of a strategic partnership between Rome and Belgrade.

The Italian Pavilion, which was inaugurated by the Undersecretary for Agricultural, Food, Forestry Policies and Tourism, Franco Manzato, together with Carlo Lo Cascio, Italy's Ambassador to Serbia, the foreign ministry said in a statement.

The Novi Sad International Agricultural Fair running through Friday is one of the most important events in Italy's economic programme in Serbia this year, the statement said.

Italian organisations and businesses are taking part in several events at the Fair including Italian Trade Agency ICE's 'Innovative Technologies in Agriculture' seminar and dozens of B2B meetings, according to the statement.

Italy is Serbia's second largest trading partner and the value of bilateral trade reached a record 4.04 billion euros in 2018, allowing Italy to consolidate its position as Serbia's top importing country and second biggest exporting country, said the statement.

Agribusiness is considered to be one of the most important strategic sectors for Serbia's economic development, the statement underlined.

Italy has participated in numerous administrative twinning programmes over the past six years that were funded by the European Union and led by Italian agriculture ministry, the statement noted.
