Libya’s eastern city of Tobruk has been flooded with sewage in the past few days, sparking fears of a health and environmental disaster, the Libyan Observer reported Thursday on its website.
Human waste has leaked into the water supply network in some parts of the city and closed many streets in other parts, the paper cited sources as saying.
The ongoing power outages, which led pumps to stop working, is the cause of the problem, the daily quoted the sources as saying.
