The work of Giuseppe Tornatore, Dario Argento, Sergio Castellitto and other contemporary masters of cinema will be showcased at the Italian Film Festival in Singapore, which opens on 14 September with a screening of Diabolik by Marco and Antonio Manetti.
“Thanks to the growing curiosity of Singaporeans for Italian cinema, this year’s Italian Film Festival is also a tribute to the efforts of new generations of directors and producers, which is why we wanted them here with us, also to find new opportunities in a very rich market,” said ambassador Mario Vattani.
“The festival will include a very wide selection of the latest successes of Italian cinema. We will open with Manetti Bros. who are coming to Singapore," Vattani said.
Thirteen movies will be shown at the festival, which is taking place through 25 September, Vattani stated.
"The audience in Singapore will be able to enjoy the best of our cinema with action, noir, drama, comedy and horror," Vattani underlined.
The festival programme also boasts films by Mario Martone, Paolo Genovese, Jonas Carpignano and Giuseppe Bonito and there will be opportunities to meet the directors, according to a foreign ministry statement.
The festival is being presented by the Italian embassy in Singapore, the statement said.
