"Slovenia has confirmed that it will remove all restrictions with Italy on 15 June. As soon as tomorrow, the fence between Gorizia and Nova Gorica will be removed therefore the border will be reopened for Fruili Venezia-Giulia residents," read the tweet.
Di Maio's announcement came after he visited Lubljana last week during tour of several European capitals aimed at getting countries to reopen their borders to visitors as Covid-19 cases continue to ebb in Europe.
Italy reopened its borders and removed travel restrictions between its regions in early June.
The European Commission has called for its internal borders to reopen in mid-June and its external borders to travellers from outside the bloc from 1 July.
