The foreign ministry has arranged the return to Italy of around 95,000 citizens since the Covid-19 epidemic began earlier this year, the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
The Italian citizens were repatriated from 120 countries in 1,032 operations after they were stranded abroad as borders were closed around the world and flights suspended amid coronavirus fears.
Over 270 Italian citizens were repatriated in the past 24 hours alone from the United Kingdom, Belgium and Saudi Arabia, the statement said.
