Stabilising war-torn Libya - Italy's former colony - remains a top strategic objective for the government, foreign minister Luigi Di Maio said on Monday.
"The stabilisation of a sovereign and united Libya is a strategic objective that is of absolute priority," Di Maio told a conference of Italian ambassadors in Rome.
Recalling how Italy's efforts in supporting multilateral action have produced "important steps forward", Di Maio thanked Italy's diplomatic staff for their "professionalism and dedication".
"Today a ceasefire is in force in Libya, a unified national government is in office and work is underway to attain the complex goal of elections," Di Maio stated.
