Suicide bomb kills two Kurdish militiamen in northern Syria

Two members of the main Kurdish militia, the People's Protection Units or YPG died in a suicide car bombing in the city of Kobane in northern Syria, local activists said.

The Kurdish militiamen were killed when the suicide bomber blew himself up at a YPG checkpoint in the south of Kobane, activists from the UK-based Syrian Human Rights Observatory monitor said on Twitter.

Kobane has been a symbol of resistance against the jihadists since IS fighters were driven out in January.

Earlier on Monday at least 28 people died and 100 were injured in a suicide bomb blast in the southeastern Turkish town of Suruc near the Syrian border, 10 kilometres from Kobane.

Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemend the attack, which was reportedly carried out by an 18-year-old woman from the Islamic State militant group.
