A conference entitled 'Syrian Voices Matter' was due to take place at the foreign press association in Rome on Monday, organised by Italy's International Affairs Institute (IAI), the foreign ministry announced.
IAI president Ferdinando Nelli Feroci, a former Italian diplomat, will open the conference, whose speakers include Rajaa Altalli, founder and co-director of the Syrian non-government organisation the Centre for Civil Society and Democracy, the foreign ministry said.
The event will be held in English and Arabic with simultaneous translation. It is being promoted by the CCSD and supported by the Italian foreign ministry's general political affairs directorate, the ministry said.
Founded by a diverse group of activists in 2011, the CCSD aims to support and strengthen civil society and democracy, freedom, justice and coexistence and to build sustainable peace and a stable and just society, according the conference programme.
