Italy's foreign minister and deputy premier Antonio Tajani held "very positive" talks in Jerusalem with Israel's premier Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday that he said bolstered "already extremely solid" bilateral ties.

"I had a very positive meeting with prime minister Netanyahu and we strengthened the already extremely solid relations between Italy and Israel - a strategic partnership," Tajani said.

During their talks, Tajani and Netanyahu looked at "all the issues in international politics, from the war in Ukraine to the situation in Iran and in the Middle East," Tajani stated.

Tajani is on a three-day visit to Israel and the occupied West Bank through Tuesday which comes as Italy's government looks to boost economic, energy, migration management and counter-terrorism collaboration with Mediterranean countries.

“Israel is a fundamental partner for us. We want to deepen bilateral cooperation in every sector, with a special focus on growth opportunities in the economic, scientific-technological and energy fields," Tajani said in a statement on Sunday ahead of his visit.

Tajani's trip follows Netanyahu's visit to Rome on Friday, during which premier Giorgia Meloni said Italy wants to strengthen cooperation with Israel in the most innovative areas of technology from artificial intelligence to cybersecurity.
