A middle-aged couple and a pensioner who lived in the flat above died in eastern Italy from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning due to a faulty boiler, the Corriere dell'Adriatico said on Monday.
The 76-year-old woman pensioner died on hospital where she was taken on Monday after being found unconscious at her flat in the medieval city of Urbino in the Marche region.
Fire fighters were called because the woman did not answer the doorphone. Firemen investigating the suspected gas leak discovered the dead bodies of the couple in their bedroom in the apartment below.
The couple, who were initially reported to have been students, are believed to have died late on Sunday evening.
