A large lorry struck and killed two highway maintenance workers and injured two others in southern Italy on Thursday near the southern city of Naples.
One of the two injured workers was in a critical condition, highway agency ANAS said.
Police are investigating the incident in which the apparently out-of-control vehicle hit the workmen as they were clearing ditches.
The two men who were killed were reportedly dragged along the road for 15 metres.
The stretch of the 7bis state highway near Nola where the accident happened was temporarily closed to traffic.
