Two Tunisians were taken to prison on Wednesday after they were arrested when 23 boat migrants arrived in Agrigento, Sicily, police said.
Hichem Nheri, 36, and Chiari Fidi, 30 were detained after they were identified at a holding centre in the Sicilian city of Messina. Public prosecutors in the northern city of Modena had ordered them to be jailed.
Nheri must serve two months in prison for failing to obey an expulsion order issued by prosecutors in Modena, according to police. Fidi was given a jail term of seven months and 29 days for minor drugs offences that he committed in Modena in 2014, police said.
