The Italian government will "ensure" that companies hit by the international sanctions slapped on Russia for its devastating war on Ukraine have the "liquidity" they need, foreign minister Luigi Di Maio said on Wednesday.
Di Maio offered the guarantee during an address on the war in Ukraine to Italy's lower house of parliament.
The punitive international sanctions imposed on Russia and oil price shocks are jolting global economic recovery, with Europe's growth set to be especially hard hit by oil and gas price hikes, according to analysts.
Italy is one of Europe’s biggest natural gas users and importers, importing 90 percent of its gas supply. And of these gas imports, 45 percent are from Russia.
