A monitoring group claims to have received a video showing inmates at the main prison in the central Syrian city of Homs holding a pro-Islamic State protest.

In the video, prisoners chant pro-IS slogans and the name of the militant group's leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and slogans against the Syrian army.

"The people want IS” and ” The Syrian army are thieves," the prisoners chant in the video allegedly received by the Britain-based Syrian Human Rights Observatory.

The monitor did not state when the video was recorded, from whom the group received it or whether it had been able to verify its authenticity.

When IS fighters overran the city of Palmyra in Homs province in May, they captured and demolished its notorious prison.

The prison had been empty at the time, according to the Syrian Human Rights Observatory.

The IS militants also released a video showing its fighters inside Palmyra's empty jail.
