North Korea has launched "several ballistic missiles" towards the Yellow Sea. This was announced by the South Korean military, as reported by the South Korean agency Yonahp, on the day of the start of joint military maneuvers involving the United States and South Korea.
The South Korean military said it had detected the launch of "several unidentified ballistic missiles" from Hwanghae province around 1:50 p.m. local time. No other details are available at this time.
Seoul merely confirmed that it had "strengthened surveillance" in "close cooperation with the United States", while the annual 'Freedom Shield' exercises are being held. A total of about 19,000 Seoul troops will be involved until next March 20, South Korean media underline.
