The British intelligence service MI6 is launching a new online portal called Silent Courier, which will use the dark web to entice potential spies to report secrets, particularly regarding Russia. The service will rely on the Tor internet browser, which will allow anonymous access to MI6's secure messaging platform. Instructions on how to use Silent Courier were provided this morning on MI6's new YouTube channel.

British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said the UK is "stepping up its efforts with cutting-edge technology, so that MI6 can recruit new spies for the UK, in Russia and around the world." The service will require users to take significant precautions for safe use. A press release announcing the launch from the UK Foreign Office, which handles MI6's communications, stated: "MI6 advises anyone accessing its portal to use reliable VPNs and devices not connected to themselves, to mitigate the risks existing in some countries".
