Jihadists from the Lakurawa group have killed dozens of people in jihadist attacks against seven villages in Kebbi State, northwestern Nigeria. This was reported by the Nigerian police and a confidential security report seen by AFP. "Unfortunately, dozens of people were killed when the inhabitants of Mamunu, Awasaka, Tungan Tsoho, Makangara, Kanzo, Gorun Naidal and Dan Mai Ago mobilized to resist the attackers," Kebbi State police spokesman Bashir Usman told AFP. The security report cites more than "30 civilians killed" in five different villages.

The attacks occurred in the administrative area of Arewa. "Security forces, composed of police, military, and local militias, were immediately mobilized to the affected areas, and patrols and coordinated operations to arrest those responsible are currently underway," said Bashir Usman. "The situation has stabilized, and authorities are engaging with community leaders, urging the population to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and cooperate with security forces as efforts continue," he added.
