The European Parliament today gave a favourable opinion on Bulgaria's accession to the euro from 1 January 2026, adopting a report confirming Bulgaria's compliance with the adoption criteria with 531 votes in favour, 69 against and 79 abstentions. The Parliament's opinion will be forwarded to the eurozone member states, which today are expected to give Sofia the final green light, making it the twenty-first member.
