A Fincantieri boat crewed by employees is taking part in Trieste's historic 'Barcolana' international regatta through 12 October, demonstrating the Italian shipbuilder's closeness to sport and its values, the company said in a statement on Friday.
"Participating in the 'Barcolana' with a customised Fincantieri boat marks an important step: it will be our crew, made up of our people, who will demonstrate the values that set us apart – team spirit, passion and determination – and which make the Group an Italian and international leader," said Fincantieri CEO and General Manager Pierroberto Folgiero.
"Sailing, like our industry, is all about coordination, responsibility and vision: bringing this message to the 57th 'Barcolana' means reaffirming Fincantieri's ability to combine tradition, innovation and the future of the maritime economy," Folgiero added.
Besides competing in the Barcolana, Bernetti Trophy and Barcolana Maxi regattas, Fincantieri will also be present at the Barcolana Sea Summit, where it will take part in the 'Underwater: economy, defence and protection' panel discussion on 10 October.
The meeting will explore the submarine world as a new frontier for security, industry and sustainability, according to the statement.
The event will look at protection of the marine environment, technological innovation and the challenges for the industry, with a focus on the role of Italy's northeast Friuli-Venezia Giulia region around Trieste - one of the first regions to be part of the National Diving Centre.
