LETTURA: 1 minuti

Tik Tok loses its appeal to the Washington Court of Appeals against the law, signed last April by Joe Biden, which provides for the platform to be banned in the United States unless the Chinese company that controls it, ByteDance, sells by January 19.

The Court of Appeals thus ruled in favor of the Justice Department, thus defining as constitutional the measure that recognizes the US government's authority to ban the popular social media for national security reasons, fearing that it could be used by the Chinese government to obtain data from Americans or influence public opinion.

The deadline set for the moment, January 19, coincides with the eve of the inauguration at the White House of Donald Trump who, after having supported the measure during his first term, during the election campaign promised that he would try to "save Tik Tok". The platform argued before the Court of Appeals that the ban violates the right of expression of its American users - estimated at around 150 million - guaranteed by the First Amendment.
