The Italian government has granted nearly a million euros to project run by UNICEF to aid children in Eritrea, the foreign ministry said in a statement on Monday.
The UNICEF project called 'Building the resilience of children, youths and communities to prevent irregular migration' aims to improve the living conditions and education levels of Eritreans, especially minors, the statement said.
Through the project, more children will get the chance to attend primary school in the Horn of Africa country, especially girls from poor families who would otherwise have to drop out of school, according to the statement.
The project will offer poor Eritrean families economic incentives to send their children to school and it will also train local workers to become experts in protecting minors against violence and exploitation, said the statement.
