Sri Lankan police have arrested former president Ranil Wickremesinghe, accusing him of misappropriating public funds by attending an event abroad during his term of office, using state funds. The Colombo magistrate ordered that Wickremesinghe, who lost the election last September, be held until Tuesday pending a new hearing. The accusations against the former president, 76, who led the country during the devastating economic crisis between 2019 and 2024, include a trip to London, at the state's expense, to attend his wife's graduation, local media reported.
