Italy's premier Giuseppe Conte will takeover the responsibilities of former European Affairs minister Paolo Savona, Conte's office announced in a brief statement on Tuesday.
The statement came after Savona resigned from the post on Friday to become head of Italy's stock-exchange watchdog Consob.
Eighty-two-year-old Savona, a euro-sceptic economist, became European Affairs minister in June last year after Italy's president Sergio Mattarella vetoed his appointment as finance minster in the new populist government.
