An Italian appeals court late Thursday cleared of wrongdoing two far-right political activists who made the fascist salute at a memorial service.
The fascist salute made by Matteo Ardolino and Marco Clemente at the memorial service in April 2014 was "commemorative" and did not appear to be aimed at propaganda, the Milan appeals court ruled.
"The orderly, silent and serious behaviour of those at the memorial service clearly showed their commemorative intentions while any wish to proselytise was not proven," the court said.
The memorial service in Milan was for two members of Italy's neo-fascist party's youth wing who were murdered in the mid-1970s by far-left militants and for a World War II Italian veteran killed by partisans in April 1945.
