Moroccan terror suspect deported from Italy

Italy expelled a 47-year-old Moroccan drugs dealer accused of supporting the Islamic State jihadist group, the 27th terrorism suspect deported this year, interior minister Angelino Alfano said Wednesday.

The Moroccan, who was detained in Pisa, was deported late on Tuesday, bringing to 90 the number of terrorism suspects expelled from Italy since January 2015, Alfano said.

"He was indicated as a person at risk of radicalisation," Alfano stated.

"We have proof of this from letters he exchanged with a fellow Moroccan ideologically close to IS who was constantly proselytising for the group."

On Friday, a middle-aged Moroccan and his wife accused of being IS sympathisers were deported from Italy, the interior ministry announced.

The couple were resident in the northern Italian city of Varese.
