Italy's prime minister Paolo Gentiloni and India's foreign minister of state M.J. Akbar are among speakers due to address the Mediterranean Dialogues summit in Rome on Saturday.

Gentiloni, who created the summit when he was Italy's top diplomat, is due to make the closing remarks to the conference with Italy's foreign minister Angelino Alfano.

Akbar will address the 'Towards a Mediterranean Prosperity' session of the conference, whose speakers also include Siqing Chen, chairman of China's central bank, and Jeffrey Sachs, director of Colombia University's Earth Institute.

US under-secretary for political affairs Thomas A. Shannon is among speakers at the opening session of Friday's plenary entitled 'The US administration and the Middle East'.

Qatar's deputy premier and foreign minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani and the United Nations special envoy to Libya, Ghassem Salame are also slated to address Saturday's plenary.

Akbar, a newspaper editor and distinguished writer, is the author of several internationally acclaimed books, including Blood Brothers, which he presented to Adnkronos news agency in 2008.
