Italy will increase by threefold the number of places in its deportation centres as part of its drive against illegal immigration, harldine interior minister Matteo Salvini said on Friday.
"We will reopen the deportation centre in via Corelli in Milan as well as five others throughout Italy," Salvini told the province of Milan's law and order committee.
The via Corelli centre will be reopened by the end of the winter, Salvini said.
The number of migrants landing in Italy has dropped sharply from 2017 and Salvini has vowed to bring it down to "zero".
A total 21,024 migrants landed in Italy from 1 January to 28 September compared with 104,889 over the same period of 2017 - a drop of over 87 percent - figures published by the interior ministry showed on Friday.
This year's landings are 90.62 percent fewer than the 132, 043 arrivals at the same point of 2016, according to the interior ministry figures.
