A seven-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital on Wednesday in a critical condition after he fell from a second-floor apartment balcony in the Sicilian city of Ragusa.
The boy sustained a head injury and numerous fractures when he allegedly climbed onto the balcony railing from a chair, lost his balance and plunged 10-15 metres onto the ground below.
The boy's mother was at home at the time but had gone into the kitchen to prepare a snack.
Police were investigating the incident.
