Pope Francis now has over 22 million followers on the microblogging website Twitter and gained 29,000 new followers each day during his recent eight-day trip to South America, il Sismografo website reported on Thursday.
The Pope's @Pontefix account is published in nine languages and the Spanish language account is the most popular with just over nine million followers followed by the English account with around 6.5 million followers.
Before his trip to predominantly Catholic Ecuador, Bolivia and Paraguay earlier this month, where he drew in crowds of millions, Francis had gained an average of 20,000 new Twitter followers a day, il Sismografo said.
