Italy and Libya have joined forces to demine Tripoli after a trail of explosive devices was found in the capital following the collapse in early June of eastern warlord Khalifa's 14-month offensive to capture it.
The Italian bilateral Mission of Assistance and Support MIASIT and Libyan Military Engineers join efforts on humanitarian demining activities to prevent new casualties in Tripoli," the Italian embassy in Tripoli tweeted on Thursday.
Haftar's failed assault on Tripoli crumbled on 5 June when forces loyal to Libya’s internationally recognised government took the town of Tarhouna, southeast of the capital, which had functioned as a forward base for Haftar's offensive.
