The government wants to boost Italy's cooperation with France, premier Giuseppe Conte said on Friday at a geopolitics conference in Genoa.
"It is time to strengthen Italy's relationship with France and give it a structure that makes our bilateral collaboration more effective," Conte said.
He was speaking at the 'Europe and the West according to Italy' meeting organised by geopolitical monthly Limes.
"We have been working on the Quirinale Treaty for some time and need to give this project new impetus," Conte stated.
Conte referenced an initiative begun at bilateral meeting between Italy and France in 2017 during the centre-left government headed by Paolo Gentiloni (now European Union economy commissioner).
The idea of a Quirinale Treaty takes its inspiration from a 1963 accord inked by France and Germany.
