Police on Thursday said they arrested a 19-year-old man from Cote d'Ivoire suspected of abetting illegal immigration after 104 rescued migrants came ashore at the Sicilian port of Pozzallo.
The Ivorian's arrest brings to 17 the number of people held this year for allegedly aiding illegal immigration, according to police.
The 104 migrants disembarked on Tuesday from the French NGO ship Ocean Viking, who were stuck at sea for over 10 days after they were saved in the Mediterranean on 18 October
The interior ministry gave the OK for the ship to dock after France and Germany agreed to receive 70 of the asylum seekers.
The migrants include 41 minors, 14 of whom are under the age of 15, and two pregnant women.
