A move by Israel to annex the Jordan Valley and areas of the occupied West Bank would be "a serious act" Italy's foreign ministry tweeted on Wednesday.
"This would be a serious act; Italy is working with the European Union for a two-state solution," deputy foreign minister Marina Sereni stated in the tweet.
Sereni held phone talks Wednesday with top Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat, according to the tweet.
"PNA concerned for possible Flag of Israel annexation of parts of the WestBank and Jordan Valley," the tweet said.
The tweet came after Israel announced this week it intended to annex the Jordan Valley and territory in the West Bank.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Monday by Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu and his chief centrist rival Benny Gantz saying they had struck a deal to form an "emergency" coalition government, ending the worst political crisis in the country's history.
Netanyahu could submit the annexation plans for approval from July, according to the statement.
United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Wednesday that it was Israel's decision whether to annex parts of the occupied West Bank.
Palestinians have condemned the formation of a new Israeli "annexation government", saying the agreement wrecked hopes of peace.
Netanyahu's annexation plans are illegal under international law according to several UN Security Council resolutions.
